I'm back with Building #5 in my Winter themed village that I am decorating to play along with the Fifth Annual 12 Tags of Christmas - Funkie Junkie Style challenge.
The challenge in a nutshell: each week, starting in September, Linda Coughlin (aka the Funkie Junkie) presents a new tag on her blog, TheFunkieJunkie.blogspot.com.
The challenge is to make something (anything!) inspired by each one of the 12 tags.
Instead of "tags", I'm making the "12 Buildings of Christmas".
Here are the details on Building # 5 ...
Inspirations from Linda's Week 5 Tag: Holly, Peeling Paper, Sentiment
Blank Canvas Building: Building D
The walls of this building have two layers of paper. The top layer is cut and peeled to reveal the background paper.
Since the walls are 2" x 8", I used some jumbo tags and the Distress technique to create the top paper.
I also used some spray inks.
To create the holly I used the holly die from the Tim Holtz Mixed Media Christmas Thinlet die set (the same die set with the poinsettias).
First I used some of the Prima Platinum Crackle spread on a sheet of heavy white cardstock.
After the crackle was thoroughly dry I cut lots of holly branches.
Next I used the holly die to cut holly leaves in some areas of the top layer of paper. I cut around the leaves and distressed the edges.
I found some birch tree paper in my stash to use as the back layer.
I'll put the two layers of paper together and then inset the crackle leaves into the cut paper much like a puzzle.
Here's a closeup of the inset holly leaves.
Here are the four panels.
Very little of the fourth panel will show once the building is in the village so I didn't add any holly to that side.
I wanted to add something to the front side, so I found some laser cut wood snowflakes in my stash.
I used a Wink of Stella pen to make them glittery, and then added a piece of Tim Holtz holiday ribbon on the back as a hanger.
I thought it still needed something so I added a Tim Holtz Metallic Sticker Label with some of his Holiday ChitChat.
I also decorated the little stoop that will sit in front of this building and added a Tim Holtz small tree.
I sprayed the tree white and then lightly added a little stickles to the tips of the branches.
I used a scrap of leftover paper around the base of the tree.
And here's where this building fits into the village.
If you'd like to see the inspiration for my building, see Linda's blog post - 12 Tags of Christmas - Tag #5.
And check out all the great stuff at the boutique...
Stay tuned as I continue to finish the remaining buildings in the village over the next weeks.

Fabulous, LOVE the torn edge effect and the crackle leaves. The birch tree background is another terrific design element. And that tiny woodlands tree is the perfect embellishment on the stoop. It's so cool seeing this village being built!
Hugs,
Linda
