Winter Village - Completed Project

Hello everyone!

Back at the beginning of November I designed a village with 12 buildings and some stoops.  I called it the "Blank Canvas Village" because it was designed to showcase any desired theme, paper collection, or mixed media techniques.

I took my chipboard village and turned it into a winter village.  I chose this theme so I could play along with Linda Coughlin's Fifth Annual 12 Tags of Christmas.

The paper, techniques, embellishments etc. that I used on each of the 12 buildings were in some way inspired by the corresponding tag that Linda designed.

If you want to see Linda's tags and how they inspired other people, hop on over to her blog, thefunkiejunkie.blogspot.com.

I started with the Blank Canvas Village.

I then decorated each of the twelve buildings.
For details on each building, check out my blog posts from November 13 - December 14th.

After I had all the buildings completed and glued together, I made a base out of two layers of medium weight chipboard.

It started out as 12" x 12", but as you can see I cut some notches to give it a little more interest.

I finished the edges with white cardstock, and then added some pretty textured paper that I thought looked like snow and glued the building assembly to the base.

Once the buildings were attached I fitted permanent roofs on all the buildings and added decorative paper.

Next I gathered some Tim Holtz products.

I used silver alcohol ink on the deer.

I sprayed the trees with white Dylusions spray and then added Stickles to give them some shine.

The baubles were used as is.

I used Glossy Accents to attach all these trimmings.

So let's take a tour around the village...

April, you have outdone yourself with this village. The mix of subtle colors and textures shows something new from every angle. I love the pointsettia flowers on blue, the subtle sheen of the silver walls and the entire project. My favorite is the building with the 3-D village view and the charming silver fawns. You are really an artist in this medium.

It's a really stunning piece of work... Each individual house is a treat, and I love that you've taken Linda's inspiration, but kept to your colour scheme and styling. It's amazing to see it all brought together - what a fabulous piece of holiday decor it makes.

So beautiful. Your concept is incredible as well - that each building matched a technique on Linda's 12 tags of Christmas. Sometimes a concept like that restricts the maker, but for you it looks like it expanded your creative horizon. Very impressive. I love the colors as well. And (as a little house maker myself) you made all hipped roof that are beautifully executed. Even more impressive. Thank you for sharing this project with everybody.
